Workshops + Stitch-Ups

Hanging out with people is my favorite. Teaching folks how to stitch is my passion.

The workshops and gatherings that I currently offer are described below. You can find all upcoming workshops and register on the events page.

#MakeDontBreak and the #YearOfStitch

My Patreon is a hotbed of activity. This year we are in the midst of #MakeDontBreak - don’t worry you can join anytime! We are learning a new craft medium every month and developing a consistent making practice. As a Patreon member you get to access to everything we have done in the past. This includes two years worth of #YearOfStitch video tutorials. These short videos teach you over 75 embroidery stitches. Plus you get loads of free patterns. We gather together on Zoom once a month to stitch and connect. There are other fun community features and events. All levels of support get access to everything. Everyone is welcome.

Craftivism 101

This workshop can be taught via Zoom or in person. The workshop is 2 hours long.

Get acquainted with craftivism, learn to embroider, stitch something brilliant, and make friends—all in just 2 hours.

Craft-based activism has been used as a tool of resistance, coalition building, and even espionage! I will provide an introduction to the history of craftivism and ways you can get involved in the modern movement. I will then teach you how to embroider and have you stabbing it out in no time. I guarantee you walk away feeling better than when you logged in.

The Story of Rita’s Quilt

This is a one-hour storytelling presentation.

Through images and story, I share the complete tale of what happened when I stumbled upon an unfinished quilt at an estate sale in Mt. Prospect, Illinois.

I knew I had to finish it in honor of the original artist who had passed on. I also knew that I could not do it alone. Let me tell you about what unfolded and what I learned from working with 150 artists from across the country to finish #RitasQuilt.

Badass Herstory Stitch-Up Series

This stitch-up series is exclusively for those of marginalized genders who are interested in participating in Badass Herstory and would like some support in getting started. Each session is a 3-week commitment. We will discuss the project, work on our personal narratives, translate those into art, and begin working on our submissions.

This is a supportive space for exploration!
